I wake up every morning to the sound of birdsong streaming in through our open bedroom window. I like to sleep with it open to help me feel connected to my natural surroundings. A pair of native doves are nesting right in front of our room and it gives me a sense of joy and gratitude to hear them chatter. I’m a bit of an early bird myself and revel in the quiet solitude that the morning at sunrise brings before everyone’s awake.

We’re in Rosscahill, between Moycullen and Oughterard in Co Galway. We’re set on a bit of a hill overlooking the Roscahill woods, the valley and then further on is Lough Corrib. We’ve been in this area for about 15 years, but we
